February 2006 Ministry Momentum

Dear Friends of His Church At Work,

Many of you have expressed a desire for tools that can help introduce the concept of WorkLife Ministry to your church leadership.

Others of you are pastors who have read information about "marketplace ministry" or heard testimonies of life transformation through workplace relationships, but find yourself asking questions like:

  • "What is the role of the local church in this area of ministry?"
  • "How do these 'marketplace' ministries work with and support the mission of the local church?"
  • "How can our church effectively engage and equip our members in their workplaces?"

We now have an on-line video presentation (see more on the video below) that addresses the why's, what's and how's of WorkLife Ministry in the context of the local church. Consider this testimony from the Senior Pastor of a WorkLife Network Church:

"I have only a few times in my life experienced anything as powerful and as God filled as our church WorkLife Ministry is turning out to be. I am convinced with all my heart that this ministry has the greatest potential for impact in God’s world, greater than any other ministry we have begun in 25 years here at Hosanna!"

CHURCH WORKLIFE MINISTRY VISION VIDEO
carrierMany churches in the WorkLife Church Network were first introduced to HCAW's WorkLife Ministry Vision at a conference workshop by HCAW's Founder, Doug Spada. We have made one of these presentations available on-line. DVD's are also available if you would like to share this presentation with your church leadership.

This dynamic and informative presentation quickly answers key questions for pastoral leadership like:

  • Why WorkLife Ministry?
  • What is WorkLife Ministry?
  • Why is WorkLife Ministry a mission of the church?
  • How does WorkLife Ministry serve as a catalyst for both the mission of the church and its members?
  • Why does WorkLife Ministry have such an impact in the lives of people?
  • Why are current methods of addressing these areas not producing lasting results in most churches?

This video also includes interviews and testimonies from Dr. Leith Anderson, past president of the National Association of Evangelicals and Senior Pastor of Wooddale Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Dr. Henry Blackaby, well known speaker and author of Experiencing God.

SURVEY: SPIRITUALITY OF WORKPLACE CHRISTIANS
lighthouseAccording to a recent national survey of people who consider themselves committed Christians, the following results were observed:

Adults involved in a workplace ministry are:

  • More than twice as likely as those connected only to a congregational church to have a biblical worldview
  • More than twice as likely to identify the Bible as the source of truth in life
  • And one-third more likely to contend that absolute moral truth exists.

The above research was from the Barna Group for the development of George Barna's most recent book, Revolution. Consider the following statistic from research done by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association:

40% of all people in the workplace have at least one conversation regarding religion or spirituality every week.

We celebrate that God is raising strong voices for Him in the workplace as evidenced by the Barna Group statistics. However, as pastors and spiritual leaders in our churches, we must ask ourselves the following difficult questions:

  1. How many Christians are getting invited to the discussions on religion and spirituality in the workplace initiated by non-Christians?
  2. If 80 to 90% of the adults in our congregation felt equipped and encouraged as ministers in their workplace, what effect would that have on our congregation and community?
  3. How many people in my church realize that their actions and quality of work demonstrate their faith everyday?
  4. How well is my church engaging and equipping our people in their workplace from Monday through Friday?
  5. If we could quickly implement ideas and tools developed by like-minded churches with proven results, why wouldn't we?

While we may believe that many of the faithful in our midst are effective in this area, consider the following testimony from a member of a WorkLife Church Network congregation. This church is listed as a top 20 church in The Church Report's 2005 edition of the Top 50 Most Influential Churches in America:

"I have always been very involved at church BUT since having my church affirm me in seeing my work as ministry, things are really changing. I have never had courage like I do now. I am praying for my co- workers, sharing the Discipleship Resources from our WorkLife Ministry with several co-workers and even had a conversation about Christ with my boss who is our company CEO. I am so happy and full of joy. Please do not ever stop supporting me here at work. Before this kind of help, this area of my life was mostly untouched by God's presence."

Even in the lives of most faithful members in thriving and progressive congregations, this potential in this area of their lives remains largely untapped.

For the most part, it is not intentional. Traditional church programs and methods simply have not achieved the desired results in the workplace and alternative models of ministry for the local church have not existed, until now.

We are available for consultation with you and your church staff to share how other churches are seeing lasting and sustainable results in this critical area. Please click on the link below for more information. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
